From April 22 to 25, the AFM-Telethon is organizing a major scientific congress at the Palais des Congrès in Paris. More than 1,100 experts in muscle and its diseases from all over the world will gather to review the latest advances in our knowledge of muscle (myogenesis, regeneration, fibrosis, aging, exercise, etc.) and our understanding of neuromuscular diseases, as well as the latest therapeutic innovations, particularly in gene therapy.

The opening of this 8th edition of the international congress, co-chaired by scientists Annemieke Aartsma-Rus (Netherlands) and John Vissing (Denmark), will be marked by a lecture given by Drew Weissman, Nobel Prize in Medicine 2023.
"Without muscle, it's impossible to move, to walk, to run, to speak, to eat, to breathe... When muscle weakens, degenerates, when it ceases to function, it's not just the gesture that fades or the movement that is interrupted, it's life that's in danger.  For generations, our families affected by neuromuscular diseases have known first-hand how vital muscle is, not only for its role in all our motor functions, but also for the major role it plays in our respiratory and cardiac functions. After decades of struggle, neuromuscular diseases are now at the forefront of a medical revolution that is changing the lives of patients and their families. The first innovative treatments, the multiplication of therapeutic trials and the proliferation of research are paving the way for a new era. An era in which fatality is no longer the rule, an era in which the diagnosis, always terrible, can be accompanied by treatment, an era in which hope becomes reality.Laurence Tiennot-Herment, President of AFM-Telethon
Nearly 90 speakers, 27 plenary lectures, find out more about the highlights of the program:

April 22: Opening conference with Drew Weissman, Nobel Prize in Medicine 2023, pioneer of RNA medicine, and Jeffrey Chamberlain, pioneer of gene therapy for Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
April 23: Symposium Young investigators, a session highlighting young researchers
Session dedicated to gene therapy for Duchenne muscular dystrophy
April 24th: "Muscle, Sport and Exercise" plenary session: experts shed light on muscle regeneration mechanisms, muscle/brain connections in the context of obesity, and the role of thyroid in physical exercise. A highly topical subject with less than 100 days to go before the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games!
Poster Flash Session: 3 minutes for 15 researchers to present their "poster".
April 25: Session dedicated to Gene Editing, a booming new technology
